Telecommuting - The Non-Phone Work

Most telecommuting jobs available are phone-based. Those jobs include customer service, sales, telemarketing, appointment setting and virtual assistants. They're also the easiest ones to find.

Some aspiring telecommuters aren't able to take on jobs that are phone-based though. Are there options out there for them? Absolutely. These kinds of jobs are a little harder to find, but they are out there for the taking.

Here are some non-phone based jobs you could find:

Data Entry

This is the most sought after position for telecommuters. It's completely computer-based. These jobs are harder to find since the legitimate ones are usually jumped on by hundreds of people. The companies that save your applications for the next hiring round will still have a ton of possible candidates to choose from.

Transcription

This is a good opportunity for someone who has good listening skills and can type fairly fast. Transcription is when you type up audio content onto a text document. The general transcription positions are easier to land as they will hire people with no experience, in most cases. Legal transcription and medical transcription will require schooling and experience to get hired on.

Chat Customer Support Agents

There are some jobs where you can perform customer support by using a live chat feature on websites. These are not readily available, but job ads for them do pop up once in awhile. Experience is not often needed, but you should be able to type to keep up with a conversation with a customer.

Site Moderators

This option is completely computer-based. You would be checking through a website forum for any inappropriate posts or enforcing forum rules. Again, these jobs aren't seen as often, but they do come around once in awhile. Generally, those, who hire for this type of position, look for someone with at least a little bit of experience.

Social Networking Managers

You may have heard of social networking sites, like Facebook or MySpace. Social Networking Managers go through these sites and perform customer rapport building tactics by using the sites on behalf of the company they work for. Their whole job is to keep up with these sites and do the postings for the company. Experience at using these kinds of sites is necessary to get one of these positions.

Writing

Some companies will hire people to write their website content for them. You could be writing articles, reports, eBooks and even blog postings. Since content is important for a website to be indexed by search engines, the site owners will hand over the content writing to someone who will do that job for them.

There are also companies that hire many writers to provide content for other people's websites. Experience isn't usually necessary, but they do look for people who have good writing skills.

This list gives you an idea of the types of jobs available that you could apply to without having to deal with the phone. The non-phone based jobs are out there. Just scour the job boards and you will find them.
